I think this is the larva of an Anthelid moth, but the actual species I don't know.
I saw several of these larvae clearly visible on the bushes fourteen hundred metres up Mount Buffalo. Their protection is not in being "invisible" but in those hairs which can cause severe irritation to anyone or anything trying to interfere with them.
Many of these hairy caterpillars, when they pupate, push the hairs through the cocoon shell where they will continue to supply protection to the animal.
